Xac's USB Scanner Protocol Converter/RS-485S is designed to handle both a protocol and electrical signal conversion function between an IBM SurePOS 700 Series TM POS Systems and SIO IBM Scanner device. Therefore the SIO Scanner can connect via this converter in order to be compatible with USB interface. This USB Scanner Protocol Converter supports the following scanners:
1. IBM 4696 Scanner/Scale
2. IBM 4697 Scanner
3. IBM 4698 Scanner/Scale
4. IBM 1520-A02 Hand Held Bar Code Scanner
5. HHBCR-2 Hand Held Bar Code Scanner (IBM 4683 & 4686 feature code 4501)
6. IBM 4685 Hand Held Bar Code Scanner
7. PSC Duet, VS800, VS1000, VS1200, HS1250, QuickScan1000,
QuickScan6000 Plus, PowerScan, Magellan SL.

These protocol converters meet IBM's "USB OEM POS Device Interface Specification" and the proposed EIA standard for Plus Power USB connectors (EIA draft standard PN 4510).
The physical dimensions are 90mm (L) x 80mm (W) x 30mm (H).
Note for Firmware Code Update
When the USB converter is used with IBM POS terminals that are using the IBM POSS/Win (Point of sale sub-system for Windowns) drivers, the files will be flash updated as following steps:
a. The 'dat' file (flash down file)
should be put in the same directory as 'aipctrl.exe' is in after installing the
POSS/Win code.
b. The default installation directory is "c:\pos\bin". But the drive
letter and the high level directory name can be modified at time of
installation.
c. System reboot is required to flash the firmware of converter.

Following is the procedure to update the new firmware.
1) Unplug the protocol converter from the USB hub.
2) Unplug the scanner from the converter.
3) Put the new firmware 'XAC9900.dat' file (flash down file) in the same directory as 'aipctrl.exe' is in.
4) Plug the protocol converter back into the USB hub.
5) Wait for download to finish. ( It may take 3 minutes to download. )
6) After firmware update is finished, plug the scanner into the converter. And, now the device is running with new firmware.
